I got home late last night from a friend’s 50th bday party and have an early doctor’s appointment so I’m rushing, which means this will be short!Β Birthdays never bothered me much. Age I mean.Β The only difficult one I had was 30 – I think leaving my 20’s really felt like I was an ADULT.Β Of course I already had 2 kids so why the heck this bothered me is beyond me now.Β I’ll be 50 next year.Β And … so what?
How do you feel about birthdays/age? Bother you? Did any particular age (decade, LOL) hit harder than another?
Age never bothers me. I so pleased every day to get another shot at this crazy life that I can only hope to keep getting older. Funny but when I hit 30 I had hoped to feel like an adult but it just didn’t happen.
I thought age never bothered me but the year I turned 30 was something else. I never have figured out why that particular birthday threw me for such a loop but none have since. I’m 65 this year according to my body.
My birthday is the best day of the year for me. It is My Special Day. My parents started a tradition that I continued with my boys. We ask for a special meal & I cook it. Funny I hated 30 also. We had mini wedding reception on my 40th & 50th. I will be celebrating my 68th in October & am proud of it. Age is only a number, attitude is what ages you.
I’ll be 69 on June 1. Age is a number. I didn’t have any birthday that bothered me. I just keep going. We try to work out at the gym 3 days a week. My mother is 90.
I had a difficult time when my 30th birthday arrived. Once I resigned myself that it was going to happen, I had a ball. My thirties were when I looked the best, felt the best, and totally enjoyed those years. I’m now 73 and relish each and every day. As one of your readers said in a previous post, age is only a number, it’s what we do with our lives that count. I’m having a great time.
Strangely enough, turning 33 bothered me. I know, weird age and I have never figured out why. Maybe because I’m still single and so many of my friends were married and having kids? I’m still not sure. Now that I’m in my late 30’s age doesn’t seem to be as much of a factor for me anymore.
I’m 58 and my husband turns 65 on Saturday. To me age is just a number and I prefer getting older each year since the alternative would mean I’m gone forever and wouldn’t be able to see family hit their milestones. With mom and dad both gone within the last 5 years and being a matriarch of the family now is what makes me feel old – and of course all the aches and pains that come with getting older!
Birthdays don’t so much, but certain life events do, like when my baby brother turned 16, and could drive, or when one of the little girls I used to babysit got married and had a baby. Now it is my 13 year old’s voice changing and getting whiskers on his upper lip!
My age that threw me was 55, I don’t know why…I usually have to ask my husband how old am I because I never remember because I didn’t care.
I hated turning 50! Wanted to stay in my 40’s forever!
I think turning 30 was my hardest! You know the old “never trust a person over 30” thing! I turned 60 in February no problem it’s the new 50 right π
Never really think about my age- If someone asks me I usually have to subtract the year to remember. I do know I turn 60 later this year but don”t plan to celebrate it in any special way.
I really don’t think about my age. I know people who are a young 90 and ones who are an old 30. It is just a number and it is how you live that matters. But with that said, the hardest for me was when I turned 30 – that was a hard one to celebrate.
I’m young (only 28), but I’m dreading turning 30, and I really think it is because it will feel like I’m truly adult rather than part kid. I’m not married, I have no boyfriend, no real “career” but I have a job. I’m happy with my life so my age shouldn’t matter, but somehow, hitting 30 will probably hit me hard.
Birthdays never bothered me but when the eye doctor said I needed bifocals I cried like a baby and felt really old. :tears:
I can’t say birthdays bother me. My hubby turned 50 this year and it seemed to bother him a little. I will turn 50 next year and I think since I have a year of hearing about his age, that when it’s my turn it is no big deal. I’m looking forward to the 50’s. My girls will all be done with college by my mid 50’s and then hopefully hubby and I can start doing all the fun traveling we have been looking forward to!
The birthday that go me was 25 I kept thinking that I was a quarter of a century old. I don’t know why it bothered me it just did. The others didn’t bug me at all and I’ll be 56 in July.
I turn 50 next year also. I’m not sure if it will bother me then, I’m thinking it’s just another year. I got started late having children so they are still young. I do think sometimes about how old I will be when they go to college or move out on their own but then I look at my parents. My Mom turned 70 this year, until recently she nor my Dad acted their age (in a good way) so I figure I’ll still be trotting along just like they are. I’m not sure if I buy into that “my kids keep me young” philosophy because I tell ya, my boys wear me out, but I wouldn’t change a thing. :loves:
I always remember this saying, ” if you didn’t know how old you were, how old would you be?” I’m always 29 for the last 37yrs
This year I will be 56. I have not liked birthdays since I turned 50. It’s funny, I don’t feel 55, I hopefully don’t look 55, but I just can’t seem to get past that 50 number. Hopefully, by the time I am 60, I will be over it. :groan:
Just another day of the year to me now.. Once I had my 50th.. I stopped counting..
Hi Carly,
When I turned 40 bothered me just a little but overall, I feel blessed for another year. And, speaking of birthdays, mine is actually tomorrow and I’ll be 53.
G
I didn’t have trouble with 30 as I had just had a baby . 40 was fine as hubs and I were having some problems (we are totally fine). I’m not having trouble with turning 50 in a few years (I’m enjoying my 40s), but all of my family keeps thinking I’m turning 50 “tomorrow” (it’s a long way away, anyway you round my age, it’s still 40! It’s because my older brothers are all over/around 50. I’m just not as close as they are and any way you round my current age, it rounds to 40!
How appropriate for me that today is for birthdays. I am 61 today. Happy Birthday to all out there whenever your birthday is. It is a wonderful day!!!!
Happy Birthday!!
Happy Birthday!!!
Doesn’t bother me, it’s just a number.
I celebrate every dang birthday — you never know when you won’t be doing THAT anymore! Seriously, I appreciate every year. The only thing that has ever bothered me is that as I get older, this old body delivery system seems to be spurtin’ pain/leaks/soreness/old age! Ah well. At least I know I’m still here, right? :alien: My dad always said the same two things when I’d tease him about age. When I’d wish him happy birthday and tell him he was now “really old”, he’d say, “At least I got here! Will you?” [Said with much affection, of course!] And he’d also say, “As long as when I get up in the morning, my feet hit the floor and my body doesn’t follow, I’m doing okay.” And that always makes me smile.
Today is actually my birthday! I am 49 and can’t believe I’ll be 50 next year. Where does the time go? I don’t usually panic about age, but as I get older…
Happy Birthday!
Age has never bothered me and having just turned 65 is really a number. I work out 4 times a week and just enjoy my husband, grandkids and family. Life is good!
For some reason turning 35 hit me really hard. Which is funny since, by the time I was 30, I had 3 kids, was divorced, and had the big H. In my working life I ended up at a place that didn’t really want me there so I couldn’t wait to turn 66, old enough for Medicare. I’m past that now, retired and loving it AND taking care of my elderly mother. Good thing I retired when I did!
Oh, and since my birthday is a national holiday I always enjoyed the day!
I turned 50 this year. Had a hard time with this one. I kind of felt like it was the top of the hill and now I’ll be sliding down. My grandma was in her 50s when she moved in with us. I guess I associate 50 with grandma hair, grandma shirts, polyester pants and comfortable shoes. I don’t feel like that. I feel like I’m not wise like her and I still need my moms advice. And definitely romance novels aren’t about me anymore. Lmao
I’ll be 60 in Nov. Was having dinner on Sat with my Mom and sister, my Mom about freaked out that I was going to be 60, of course my sister will be 59. I told my Mom I look 40 that is why she is having trouble with my age.
I have never had a problem with my birthdays it’s just a another number. This year maybe the first I may have a problem with my birthday this year. I had a stroke in February. My birthday is coming up soon in May and 63rd, but bringing stuck in my body and not beinging able to get out and do things any more.
birthdays are rather anti-climatic for me… though, 45 seemed harder. I try to not let them bother me–if you live life fully, age is just a number, right?
I’ll be 50 next year as well
39 was a bad health year for me I felt like my warranty went up
I’ve enjoyed my 40s I think because I don’t care so much what others think
I’ll be 47 this year and I’m totally okay with it. Instead of having a problem with age I’ve found that I’ve learned something about myself each time. When I had my 30th birthday I found that even though it was nice for others to approve of my life decisions I didn’t need or seek approval any longer. Looking forward to see what my 50’s have in store for me π
Age has never bothered me either. I didn’t freak out like so many of my friends when I turned 30, so figured 40 would be an issue. It was just a pretty awesome birthday really.
I almost couldn’t wait to turn 55 because I knew that I could retire then. That didn’t end up happening (I had a new job I loved) but it was still good to know that I could if I wanted to. I turned 58 last year and I’ve now been retired 2 years; I’m loving it. A cancer diagnosis 4 years ago made me realize that life is short and I should enjoy it while I can. I’ll soon celebrate 5 years cancer free. Love your books!
To me age is just a number. You are as old as you feel mentally, hence, I am only 18. I read a great book once, “And the Ladies of The Club”, it followed a woman from the time she was 18 until she was 85. The book also included her friends. The very last line in the book was about her discussing her age. At age 85 she said “I am only 18, that is how I feel mentally. That is what is important. How you feel mentally. :kickass:
I look good for my age and I am 46. 46 has hit me hard this year since by boyfriend had broke up with me one week after my birthday. I am looking forward to my next birthday and I know it will be better than the one I had last year. I am looking forward to the next decade and I know I will still look good and young too.
I see that I am not the only one that had a baby at 30(birthday in August, baby in October). She was very wanted so I can say I had a very good year. I don’t remember any birthday that was harder than any other.
I’m turning 60 this year and it felt kind of weird to even type that! No particular birthday was any harder than the rest. We’re enjoying life–we’re both retired school teachers, and have recently moved across Texas to be near our children and grandkids. We love it here and feel that every day is a blessing.
Birthdays never meant doodly squat to me. haha
My husband threw me a big surprise party for my 50th. It was truly a surprise and fabulous.
I have a big x-0 birthday coming in a couple of weeks. My kids are throwing me a party & my family is coming to town to help celebrate. So far I haven’t had too much trouble with age. It’s just one more day. Plus, being a teacher, I say you are only as old as you feel. Spending my days with teenagers makes me feel young!!
Age has never bothered me I will be 70 in October and have earned every gray hair and wrinkle that I have.
I am 70 and like Carly the only one that bothered me was turning 30. I was teased all day about the 20’s being gone, and I did not really realize it bothered me until my sister called to wish me Happy Birthday and I startled her when I started to cry.
For me I have never had an age that has bother me. I love my birthday’s so much that I celebrate my birthday for the whole month (July). My birthday is July 1st and I will be 62. For many years I thought the 4th of July was my birthday, because that is when my parent would celebrate it. Why not enjoy each birthday, because you canβt change your age?
The key colors were always the Red, White, and Blue
which designated the league, and there were not any enormous “NBA” letters or
symbol in the jersey. Whether you’re a Rockets, Cavaliers or Celtics, you can still cheer your time on in style with authentic NBA jerseys, replica jerseys or swingman jerseys for men,
women and children. These actually become consensus picks
by having to be picked by you both in order for you to place
the bet.
